NEAR is a proof-of-stake Layer 1 blockchain that splits its state into shards, so validators produce and validate chunks of each block in parallel. NEAR runs WebAssembly smart contracts on accounts that can carry human-readable names, and extends its stack toward AI agents with NEAR Intents for cross-chain execution and NEAR AI for private inference.
